Reviving the Legacy

Reviving the Legacy

On 2nd December 2024, the Burhani Foundation, in collaboration with Project Rise, relaunched the Save Our Sparrows (SOS) campaign to raise global awareness about sparrow conservation. The initiative included awareness sessions, art and craft activities, and a nationwide Bird Feeder Distribution Drive beginning 6th March 2025 across 100+ centers. A custom software was developed to track sparrow sightings and feeder installations. Inspired by the teachings of His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the campaign continues with strong community participation and a renewed commitment to ecological stewardship.

Through awareness drives, community participation, and on-ground conservation efforts, each of these locations has played a vital role in advancing the SOS mission. Together, they form a powerful network of change-makers committed to restoring ecological balance and fostering a future where sparrows and other urban wildlife can thrive.

Save Our Sparrows

On March 6, 2011, in commemoration of the 100th birthday of His Holiness Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, Burhani Foundation initiated the Save Our Sparrows project, an effort to preserve and protect sparrow habitats threatened by rapid urbanization. This humble yet impactful initiative began with a large-scale bird feeder distribution drive, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his capacity as the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat. The campaign marked a significant step toward ensuring the survival of sparrows and fostering greater awareness around bird conservation.
