Yavatmal Check Dams

In 2020, Project Rise partnered with World Vision India to launch a water security and farmer upliftment project in Yavatmal, Maharashtra, a chronically drought-prone region with unpredictable rainfall leading to a tragically high number of farmer suicides. As part of the project, check dams have been installed in five villages in order to alleviate the water scarcity that is prevalent in the region

Jamnagar Rainwater Harvesting

The Dawoodi Bohras of Jamnagar organised a conference to showcase a newly implemented Rainwater Harvesting project at their Saifee Masjid Complex. Spread over a 4000 sq ft terrace, water collected on the rooftop passes through outlets and filter systems that eventually connect to a well in the Masjid Complex. The entire system runs automatically with no need for mechanical assistance

‘Happy Nests’ Upcycling Initiative

An upcycling initiative named ‘Happy Nests’ has been launched by Dawoodi Bohra women across the globe to upcycle and transform plastic waste into decorative items and artefacts. 

Dana Committee Efforts

To eliminate food waste, community volunteers formed the ‘Dana Committee’ (Dana meaning a grain of food) under the aegis of the community kitchen ‘Faiz al Mawaid il Burhaniyah’. As of 2021, there are 526 Dana Committees, with 7,853 total members, spread across forty countries who strive to educate people to stop food waste.

Indore Event

The Dawoodi Bohras of Indore launched a ‘Zero Waste’ campaign in collaboration with the Indore Municipal Corporation, Burhani Foundation and Project Rise. Announced under the Government of India’s ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’, the aim of this campaign is to spread awareness about eliminating waste and adopting a sustainable lifestyle.

Bring Your Own Bag/Bottle’ Initiative

Various community centres across the world have adopted the ‘Bring Your Own Bag/Bottle’ [BYOB] policy in an effort to reduce the usage of single-use plastics at community events

Recycling Drives

Regular drives for recycling paper and plastic waste are undertaken across community centres in India to recycle waste and promote a circular approach.

Turning the Tide Against Plastic Pollution

In order to mitigate the hazards of single-use plastic, the Dawoodi Bohra community initiated the campaign of ‘Turning the Tide Against Plastic Pollution’ in association with UN Champion of the Earth Advocate Afroz Shah. In October 2021, the volunteers from Burhani Foundation and Project Rise commemorated 101 weeks of the campaign
