Turning the Tide

In collaboration with UN Champion of the Earth Afroz Shah, Burhani Foundation launched a community-led initiative in 2018 to combat plastic pollution. Through weekly beach and river cleanups in Mumbai, spanning locations like Versova Beach and the Mithi River volunteers have fostered environmental responsibility and awareness. Supported by Project Rise and involving students and institutions nationwide, the campaign continues to inspire sustainable action through education, engagement, and impactful community service.

I Love Cleanliness drive

In 2015, the Burhani Foundation India inaugurated the “I Love Cleanliness” initiative, a distinguished effort to advance the message of hygiene and civic responsibility in alignment with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Spearheaded by the Dawoodi Bohra community under the esteemed guidance of His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the campaign mobilized NGOs, civic bodies, and citizens to participate in a city-wide cleanliness drive. The event was graced by the Honourable Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao, along with other senior government officials and dignitaries.

Climate Change and You

On June 5, 2010, to commemorate World Environment Day and the 99th birthday of His Holiness Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, Burhani Foundation hosted a distinguished seminar and exhibition titled Climate Change & You at Y.B. Chavan Auditorium, Mumbai. The event aimed to simplify the understanding of climate change and promote practical, impactful environmental actions. Attended by over 700 participants, it featured esteemed government officials, experts, and Burhani Foundation representatives.

NEERI Award

In collaboration with the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Burhani Foundation instituted The BFI–NEERI Award for outstanding and socially relevant research & development in environmental technologies. Every year, nominations were invited from various technical and scientific institutes to recognize the contribution of Indian environmental scientists towards achieving environmental awareness goals.

Beautification

Beautification

In a continued effort to promote civic pride and environmental stewardship, the Burhani Foundation participated in the city-wide initiative Hamara Station Hamari Shaan. Partnering with Mumbai First and Making a Difference Foundation, Burhani Foundation adopted Masjid Bunder and Sandhurst Road railway stations for a focused cleanliness and beautification drive. As part of a campaign that transformed 36 suburban stations across Mumbai’s Western and Central lines, the project was launched on 2nd October and completed within a week, revitalizing public spaces with meaningful artwork and cleaner environments.
